Boo Coasters

I'm making some burlap curtains for my bedroom and I have lots of little burlap pieces.  So I created these little Burlap coasters for Halloween.  I plan on making some more, maybe a witch and cat silhouette.  I may get real crafty and paint an entire haunted house scene as a wall hanging.

I also made some little aprons for dish soap and/or hand sanitizer bottles.  I found the pattern and idea over at Simplify.   Hope your weekend is full of fun and laughter! April@Little Mama Hen

Witch's Feet

School has been in session four weeks now and I miss my little ones so much.  The only real solace I get is that they are having fun.  As a Mama, letting go is so hard.  I have kept myself busy this past week with Witch's Feet.  I made a small 13" wall hanging and a table runner. I heat bonded her feet, legs and skirt and then went back and secured the edges with stitching.  I also added a couple of ruffles and there you have it.  :)

MaoMao is a good companion. He keeps me company, crawling up into my lap every time I sit down.  He even reached out his little paw yesterday to touch my hand as he was resting at my side.  He also thinks I can't see him when he's hiding on the stairs. little cutie.

Dresden Star Finish!

She's finished! I finished my Dresden Star Quilt.  She ended up being 64" x 78".

And of course, I made it reversible.

The Dresdens petals were made with Darlene Zimmerman's Dresden ruler at 2.5".  I made points on both ends and machine sewed them on to white Squares.

I started out with a layer cake of 3 Sister's Oasis and then added coordinating fabrics from my local quilt shop.  She was such fun to make.  It will be hard to see her go, but that's why I make them.  :)

We also had the opportunity to visit some family in the mountains this summer.  Oh, it was so beautiful, I didn't want to come back.  But Back we are and next week my little sweeties start school and I have mixed emotions of excitement and melancholy. Motherhood is bitter, sweet.

I hope all is well and your summers were great too! April @ Little Mama Hen.

Full Summer Swing!

Summer is so wonderful!  I don't have to share my kids with the school system, my hubby gets to come home from work early, we can swim in the pool whenever, peaches are ripe, and I do get to sew a little.  :)

I finished some Little Dresses for Africa.  Have you ever heard of them?  Go check out Rachel and her lovely group and all the wonderful things they do! really amazing!

My Little Ladybug has decided that she wants a Frozen Birthday party next month!  So we've been crafting everything Elsa!  :)  We found a video that takes you step by step on how to draw Elsa! FUN!!!  It's here HOW TO DRAW ELSA.

I've also had some sewing/quilting time.  I'm trying to finish up quilting my Dresden Star.  I'm just doing a little 'lite' quilting as not to take away from the stars and Dresden plates.  She's so delicate and pretty.  :)

And look at Little Ladybug's SunFlower!  I hope your Summer is full and happy too!! April@Little Mama Hen

Pillow Cases for ConKerr Cancer Charity!

Pillow cases for ConKerr Cancer Charity!

My Mama and Sister came over to sew some pillow cases with me today!!  It was such a treat!

We laughed...mostly at Mama.  She's so funny.  She brightens an entire room by just smiling.  :)

We sewed 8 pillow cases, well actually I still need to finish mine, but I'm almost done!

Buka's, my sister, 4 year old granddaughter wanted to know why we were sewing strings!! lol

Anytime spent with Mama and Buka are special, but when you add sewing and FOOD, well then it's a shindig!

I also made some coaster as mementos from the scraps leftover from our pillowcases. Buka's idea!  :) That smart sister of mine!

Have you heard of ConKerr Cancer Charity ?   You can sew pillowcases and donate them to be given to children fighting cancer.  I'm sure there's a pickup location near you!

I learned to sew pillowcases from Jenny over at Missouri Star Quilt Co.  It's fun and easy!  Give it a try!  Add a few friends and some food and you'll have a sewing good time.  :)  Have  a great week.

*The story of me sewing at 14 (I'll share that another time!)  But Mama always tells it!  so funny.
*I'm not gonna have yal check mine anymore because yal always find something to fix! lol
*Where's my pillowcase!
*My rotary cutter veered to the right! How'd it do that?

Hand 2 Help 2014

Every year over at Confessions of a Fabric Addict, Sarah organizes a charity quilt event in which quilters all over have a chance to make and donate quilts to reputable charities. I joined in last year and again this year!  The little quilt above will hopefully find a wonderful home and offer some comfort and security to someone in need.

These next two quilt tops are not for the charity but they are done!  I love the little ladybugs!
This Double Irish Chain/Dresden quilt will find a loving spot on our family couch as soon as I find just the right fabric for the back.
She's so pretty.  :)  I really do love blue.
Well, it's a long weekend and I'm sure to have some extra fun! -April@Little Mama Hen

Quilt Stash

Add caption
Finished up my Ladybug top.  Now I have to decide what backing fabric to add and how to quilt it.  She's a 46" square and she was so much fun to make!  My own Little Miss Ladybug helped me pick out the border fabric.  She said the butterflies made it look like a garden.  :)  Seven is such a darling age; actually I say that about every age. I love my two little sweeties.  :)

Most people like to show their fabric stashes, but it seems I have more of a quilt stash!  NINE quilt tops ready and several still being pieced...this isn't even all of them.  :)  I love each of them!  After I'm done with a quilt top, I usually fold it up and place it in a pillow case to keep the dust off it.  How do you store your projects?  I don't like the creases that folding them up causes but I guess that's just the way it goes.  I wish I had some sort of bar that I cold drape them over so they cold be on display while they wait their turn to be quilted.

Well, have a wonderful Weekend and a very Happy Mothers' Day!!  -April@Little Mama Hen

May Showers

It's been raining the last couple of days and I love it.
MaoMao has the right idea.  I wish I could take naps during the day...all day.
Some pretty new stars wrapped in an Irish Chain.  Now with a finished top, it's time to pick a fabric backing and quilt it.

Pinwheels and Ladybugs

I finished her up!  She's been sitting around for oh so long, patiently waiting...and now...She's done!  I'm not sure what makes me shelve a quilt.  I have several.  It's not that I don't want to finish them, it's just that for various reasons some quilts just need to simmer.

I also finished a couple of little totes for some friends of my Mama.  I really like the blue/green one.  :)
My Little BoHo quilt is coming right along.  I finished sewing on all the dresdens.  This pattern is really just a Double Irish chain and I put some Dresdens in the white space.

Hope your week is going well! -Little Mama Hen

Mini Sleeping Bag

My Grand Niece was over yesterday and she forgot her little lovey.  He's a tiny little tiger that she carries around everywhere.  So, I made him a little quilt to stay cozy while he's visiting. :)

Flip it over and it's a Mini Sleeping Bag!  I think he'll be just fine until he's back safe in Little Queen's arms.

-Hope you all are having a great weekend!

Little Helper

This little quilt top just got Finished!!! I've had the blocks ready to sew together for over a year.  This was one of those 'many' projects that just got shelved while I got distracted with other projects and such things.  I'm quilting her now, but she's about to be shelved again until I have time to go to the fabric store and pick up some binding.
And I'll give you one guess who 'Helped' Mama make the beds this morning...

Little MaoMao insists on doing whatever I'm doing.  He's such a darling, well most of the time. Sometimes he's just plain naughty, but I still love that little darn cat.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! -Little Mama Hen

Baby Quilt Squares

I just finished up another baby quilt.  She's 36"x 48" and just so darling.  Last year my mom gave me a magazine 'Love of Quilting'(March/April 2013) and this pattern was on the front cover.  It was designed by Mary Fons and was called Emerals (Her quilt had shades of green).  I'm thinking that I'll do this pattern again with maybe violet and charcoal or Navy with reds and yellows and oranges, so many possibilities!

It's sunny and warm outside and I hope to do a lot of playing outside with the kids this weekend.  Maybe I'll even take them to the pool; the water will be way to cold for me but my little waterbugs probably wont care a bit.

I hope that your weekend is full of beautiful sunshine and lots of laughter. -April @Little Mama Hen.

Baby Quilts

When I first started quilting a few years ago I had no table no chair and a very clunky sewing machine.  I sat on the floor and sewed.  I probably would still be sewing on the floor; however, my ever sweet and loving husband got me a table, a new sewing machine and he's always looking to see what else he can set me up with.  :)  It's so very wonderful to have someone that looks out after me.
My daughter's nickname is Ladybug and so I'm always looking for things I can add little ladybugs to.  This little quilt needs some border fabric and she'll be ready to bast and quilt.

Last year I made This QUILT for the Hands 2 Help charity.  I have one ready for this year too.  I'll show it soon.

Enjoying this stormy Florida day.  -Little Mama Hen

Triplets!

Mama's Friend has a son who just had triplets!!  Can you imagine the sweet little blessings in that home!  Two Girls and a Boy to add to the two Boys that they already have!  What a wonderful family!  My prayers and blessings go to their sweet beginnings.  I sewed up three little baby quilts for the new babies and I'm going to do a couple of pillow cases for the big brothers.
I drew a picture of an elephant and then cut him out and picked three different fabrics and used heat bond.  Then I did a little (not heavy) zigzag stitch for added security.

And of course what little girls quilt is complete without a few Dresdens.  :)  Oh how I love little Dresdens.
My niece's birthday is coming up and I made her a little zipper pouch and filled it with some goodies.  Oh how I love my little petunia, she's grown up into a beautiful young woman and she's a wonderful Mama.  I will always see her a that little three year old that I covered with petunia from head to toe one blissful summer so long ago.

My heart is full of wonderful thoughts and hopefulness; spring had a way of doing that.

Oh and if you're looking for some fun charity gatherings then head over to Confessions of a Fabric Addict and see what Sarah has going on with Hands 2 Help
