Project Stash List

Well, it rained so hard last night that I woke up!  It was actually about 4:30 am.  It wasn't the rain that bothered me, but I could hear a hum.  It almost sounded like someone's car horn continuously blowing far far away.  I had just watched a documentary with my kids about Tornadoes, so I couldn't fall right back to sleep.  Usually rain is a great comfort to me and thunder soothes my soul, but last night I kept wondering if I should wake up the kids and head downstairs for a safer place to wait out the Tornado.  ha! There was no tornado and I did fade back off to sleep.  Sooo, when I'm a bit sleepy from a restless night of sleep I always try to busy myself through out the day to help keep me awake.  Which leads me to my Project Stash List.

I guess I should confess that I'm a hmmm how do I describe it....I'm an artist.  I don't claim to be a professional, but I find great joy in creating things.  One of my outlets of creation is Quilting.  I love each and every process of the art.  I love designing, selecting fabric, piecing, quilting, binding and of course showing and teaching others what I've learned.  And like many artists my inspiration waxes and wanes.  Being a true Inspirational Artist, my endeavors are lead by just that...inspiration. And what inspires one day my wane dimly the next.

Below I have a list of a few (I'm laughing to myself) quilt projects that I have on my shelves.  They are in a variety of states.  Some are just blocks, while others just need binding.  I love each of them and despite their incompleteness, they make me happy just having them to work on.

A Golden Wedding Ring Pattern and Template that I found on Ebay.  I love this pattern.  It's kinda nice to sit and go through my scraps to Hand cut out the pieces.

I've actually already completed a quilt with this pattern and had several pieces of fabric cut to make some more blocks.  It's called the Celtic Twist and I found it on McCall's Quilting.

This sweet little block is called Connemara  and is also found on McCall's Quilting

 This is a sweet little Bear's Paw Block that I made a Pet Quilt for my neighbor's Yorkie a couple of years ago...I have some scraps that I can make another small quilt.  I love the Bear's Paw Block!

 This small quilt makes me smile.  It actually just needs to be finished quilting and binding.  I threw it together when I first started FMQ.  I thought FMQ would be so easy, but I've got some more practicing to do. lol

 My sister gave me this Beautiful fabric a couple of years ago for my birthday.  I just love it and really need to work on this pattern some more.  :)

 This is a quilt for my husband.  The front is complete but I'm going to patchwork the back with some applique and other stuff.  It will be reversible.  He loves everything outdoors.

 This is a complete quilt top for my daughter.  I just need to find the right backing fabric.

 This is a complete quilt top for my son and it just needs backing fabric too.  He loves orange.

 I bought this fabric last year for my birthday and made this pillow front cover.  Now, I just need to finish the zipper back and it'll be so pretty on our couch.

 This Dresden Plate I made for Halloween one year.  It will be a Pillow cover too one day. lol

 Sweet little doll quilt that just needs binding.

 The Dresden plate is my favorite!  These blocks are left over from another quilt that I made for a charity over at Confessions of a Fabric Addict.  You can see my finished quilt HERE.

 This is just a little Disappearing Nine Patch that needs to be sewn up and finished.

 This is my Rainbow/Color Palette quilt top. It still needs some more Dresden petals.

 This is a quilt top I threw together from some Stars that I was practicing making.

 I love navy blue and white/cream.  :)

 Who doesn't love a little witchyness.  :)  These coasters need binding.

 I'm not sure what I'll do with this.  Maybe a table top for Fall?  I was just playing around.

 Yellow and Grey Flimsy that needs a pretty back fabric.

 I just finished this Medallion quilt top a couple of weeks ago.

 I put tiny yoyos on the corner fabrics.  :)  I've been wanting to find a way to add a yoyo to a quilt for awhile now.

 HST quilt top with fabric backing.  I need to get some batting and start quilting.

 My Irish Chain Variation.  I need to think of something to put or applique in the white space.  I just can't leave it white.  MaoMao my cat is always interested in my quilting.

And last but not least, my pretty little Ladybug Flimsy.  :)

 Well, that's not even all of my projects, but that's it for now.  I have several others that I'll share at another time.

Hopefully tonight I'll get a goodnight sleep and be ready to have an adventure with my little, sweet kiddos.  -April@Little Mama Hen.

Nice Long Weekend

The kids have a nice 4 day weekend and we are having fun!  What are we doing?  Not really anything.  Sometimes just hanging out is great.  The weather has been cool and this makes my husband really happy; he's been playing with the kids like he's still a kid.  Of course, cool weather for us is 60s.

With the kids and hubby content I've been poking around my sewing room the last few days.  I pulled out some quilts I'd finished a while back and I'm getting them ready to put in my online shop. I also had some Christmas and Birthday money and so a couple of days ago I skipped over to Joann's Fabric shop and did some fabric stashing.  Of course, my fabric stash is never very large, because I'm always starting a new quilt.  I have dozens of 'started' quilts and several 'flimsies'.  I like to say that I have a Flimsy stash not a fabric stash.

Boo Coasters

 I'm making some burlap curtains for my bedroom and I have lots of little burlap pieces.  So I created these little Burlap coasters for Halloween.  I plan on making some more, maybe a witch and cat silhouette.  I may get real crafty and paint an entire haunted house scene as a wall hanging.

I also made some little aprons for dish soap and/or hand sanitizer bottles.  I found the pattern and idea over at Simplify.   Hope your weekend is full of fun and laughter! April@Little Mama Hen

Witch's Feet

School has been in session four weeks now and I miss my little ones so much.  The only real solace I get is that they are having fun.  As a Mama, letting go is so hard.  I have kept myself busy this past week with Witch's Feet.  I made a small 13" wall hanging and a table runner. I heat bonded her feet, legs and skirt and then went back and secured the edges with stitching.  I also added a couple of ruffles and there you have it.  :)

MaoMao is a good companion. He keeps me company, crawling up into my lap every time I sit down.  He even reached out his little paw yesterday to touch my hand as he was resting at my side.  He also thinks I can't see him when he's hiding on the stairs. little cutie.

Dresden Star Finish!

She's finished! I finished my Dresden Star Quilt.  She ended up being 64" x 78".  

 And of course, I made it reversible.

 The Dresdens petals were made with Darlene Zimmerman's Dresden ruler at 2.5".  I made points on both ends and machine sewed them on to white Squares.

 I started out with a layer cake of 3 Sister's Oasis and then added coordinating fabrics from my local quilt shop.  She was such fun to make.  It will be hard to see her go, but that's why I make them.  :)

We also had the opportunity to visit some family in the mountains this summer.  Oh, it was so beautiful, I didn't want to come back.  But Back we are and next week my little sweeties start school and I have mixed emotions of excitement and melancholy. Motherhood is bitter, sweet.

Full Summer Swing!

Summer is so wonderful!  I don't have to share my kids with the school system, my hubby gets to come home from work early, we can swim in the pool whenever, peaches are ripe, and I do get to sew a little.  :)  

I finished some Little Dresses for Africa.  Have you ever heard of them?  Go check out Rachel and her lovely group and all the wonderful things they do! really amazing!

 My Little Ladybug has decided that she wants a Frozen Birthday party next month!  So we've been crafting everything Elsa!  :)  We found a video that takes you step by step on how to draw Elsa! FUN!!!  It's here HOW TO DRAW ELSA.

 I've also had some sewing/quilting time.  I'm trying to finish up quilting my Dresden Star.  I'm just doing a little 'lite' quilting as not to take away from the stars and Dresden plates.  She's so delicate and pretty.  :)

Pillow cases for ConKerr Cancer Charity!

My Mama and Sister came over to sew some pillow cases with me today!!  It was such a treat!

 We laughed...mostly at Mama.  She's so funny.  She brightens an entire room by just smiling.  :)

 We sewed 8 pillow cases, well actually I still need to finish mine, but I'm almost done!

 Buka's, my sister, 4 year old granddaughter wanted to know why we were sewing strings!! lol

Anytime spent with Mama and Buka are special, but when you add sewing and FOOD, well then it's a shindig!  

I also made some coaster as mementos from the scraps leftover from our pillowcases. Buka's idea!  :) That smart sister of mine!

Have you heard of ConKerr Cancer Charity ?   You can sew pillowcases and donate them to be given to children fighting cancer.  I'm sure there's a pickup location near you!

I learned to sew pillowcases from Jenny over at Missouri Star Quilt Co.  It's fun and easy!  Give it a try!  Add a few friends and some food and you'll have a sewing good time.  :)  Have  a great week.

Hand 2 Help 2014

Every year over at Confessions of a Fabric Addict, Sarah organizes a charity quilt event in which quilters all over have a chance to make and donate quilts to reputable charities. I joined in last year and again this year!  The little quilt above will hopefully find a wonderful home and offer some comfort and security to someone in need.

These next two quilt tops are not for the charity but they are done!  I love the little ladybugs!

 This Double Irish Chain/Dresden quilt will find a loving spot on our family couch as soon as I find just the right fabric for the back.

 She's so pretty.  :)  I really do love blue.

Quilt Stash

Finished up my Ladybug top.  Now I have to decide what backing fabric to add and how to quilt it.  She's a 46" square and she was so much fun to make!  My own Little Miss Ladybug helped me pick out the border fabric.  She said the butterflies made it look like a garden.  :)  Seven is such a darling age; actually I say that about every age. I love my two little sweeties.  :)

Most people like to show their fabric stashes, but it seems I have more of a quilt stash!  NINE quilt tops ready and several still being pieced...this isn't even all of them.  :)  I love each of them!  After I'm done with a quilt top, I usually fold it up and place it in a pillow case to keep the dust off it.  How do you store your projects?  I don't like the creases that folding them up causes but I guess that's just the way it goes.  I wish I had some sort of bar that I cold drape them over so they cold be on display while they wait their turn to be quilted.

 It's been raining the last couple of days and I love it.

 MaoMao has the right idea.  I wish I could take naps during the day...all day.

Some pretty new stars wrapped in an Irish Chain.  Now with a finished top, it's time to pick a fabric backing and quilt it.
